With my book being a bunch of short stories, I was never sure how the book might end. The short stories were all so different, and mostly about some event that happened in my author’s life. I would say the author views their life as a well lived one with many experiences and memories. He is very open to share his stories, as they are books, and he wants people to enjoy the stories he has. He wants people to read and learn from what he did in the past. The emotional response I had with the book was intrigued, or interested. I was so interested in what would happen to David in each of his short stories. They were all good, and left me wondering, how is it that he did some of the stuff he did.

“The greatest gift an author can have is a tortured childhood.” For my book, Me Talk Pretty One Day this memoir has its up and downs. The author uses short stories to retell experiences he has had, some are good memories and others are bad. So I would say that it depends on which story, and when it reflects his tortured childhood. For example, one of his first struggles in life was when he was very young and in elementary school. He had a lisp and was not able to say “S” words right, the teacher did not like this and some students laughed at him. At first he was sad and negative towards his problem, but after working with a speech therapist he was able to control his problem. He would just find ways around those pesky “S” words. He became skilled at doing so that people forgot or didn’t know he even had a lisp. I would say the book is very interesting and it is a good read, because it is short stories. The chapters aren’t that lengthy and we get to read many different stories throughout the whole story. Honesty I have no clue how this memoir will end, because I don’t know which short story he will use!

If I was to write a memoir about myself the one story that would have to be in it would be the time I chose a high school. In my eighth grade year at my middle school there was no high school after that. So I was faced with a tough decision of where I want to go next, I guess it felt like I do now that I’m thinking of which college I want to attend next fall. I have heard that which college you choose is one of the biggest decisions a young adult can make for themselves, and that no one else should tell you where to go. I looked at a few schools and it really came down to one decision. The question I needed to answer was, do I want to go to a private school or a big public school with no friends. In my class of 13 in middle school I was already used to small private schools, so I chose to go to a private school still. Eight students in my graduating class went to the school Gahanna Christian Academy. Now that I knew I would for sure have friends in my next step in life I was sold on this school. I quickly came to realize the school was small enough and I was good enough that I would be able to play the three varsity sports I wanted to play. Those three sports are Soccer, Basketball, and Baseball. After I made it a done deal that I was going to school there, I had to wait till the first day of school. I admit I was very unsure of what to expect from the school, but I am very happy that I made this choice. I have really enjoyed my past four years at that school and it has helped me build friendships that will last a lifetime and my relationship with God.

I am on page 243 in my book Nineteen Minutes. The book has been slowly getting better with each new chapter that I read. This is defiantly a long book and has taken me some time to read so far. Although it is a long book it has a great message for readers. I am not fully able to relate with the book on a personal level.  I can sort of relate and grieve for the people and families that are involved with school shootings. I know what it is like to lose loved ones. I have never lost a loved one to anything as sad as a school shooting. It is sad how school is said to be this safe place where students can come to learn, and then something like this happens. It just doesn't seem fair for the students who were in the right place at the wrong time. For a student who experienced something like this, it could make them scared to go to school again.

I am on page 50 in my book Nineteen Minutes. This book so far has been okay. This is because I don’t think I have fully got into the book yet. I do believe I will grow to like this book. Two literary devices that are used early in the book is point of view and internal/external conflict. There is one early chapter that gave detailed information of an officer going into the school while the shooter was letting loose. Before he even goes in his orders is to wait for the SWAT team to arrive. He couldn't just stand there and wait any longer. He decides to tell the superior that was on scene for the time that he was going in now and he didn't care the outcome. He was soon after followed by two more officers who felt the same way. The use of these literary devices enhanced the chapter and I was able to get a clear picture in my head of what might have happened.  The point of view does change between people in the book. This impacts the book in a good way because it lets the readers get insight on a lot of different characters and their feelings and thoughts.

I really liked reading the book The Hunger Games, I have always wanted too, but never wanted to take the time too. I know it’s silly, but reading is not usually my top choice when it comes to the free time I get.  In this busy world stopping and really taking the time to sit down and read a good book seems like a bother to some of us. Even though I don’t like to spend my time reading, I really liked the time I spent reading this book. I first heard about The Hunger Games when the movie came out. I really enjoyed the movie a lot! It was full of action and had a good story to it. After the movie I would hear people say, “That was a good movie, but the book was better.” This shocked me and all I could think was, “what!? Movies are so much better because you can see what is going on, not imagine it.” Just like most of the chapters the book ends with a cliffhanger, leaving people wanting to know more. Now a days people are so curios to know the whole story, and some won’t stop till they get it. I think this was a great way to end the book/movie. This gets the fans even more excited and ready for the next book/movie. My favorite character in the book was Katniss. She is just more appealing to the teens that read the book. We get to see her thoughts, feelings, and actions. We also form our own opinion of her and her choices or what we might do in her situation.

I am on page 195. Katniss is the main character in the story, and book is told from her point of view. Katniss lives in district 12, said to be the worst living conditions of the 12 districts. She has taken on the role as the main provider for her family. Her dad died when she was about 13 years old, from then she has done everything to help keep her family alive. She would break the law and leave the district in order to go hunt in the woods. There was a hole in the fence that she could slip through. Katniss used this time as like an escape from all the bad that was happening at home. She still stuck to business, and hunted animals to trade back in town. This was what she knew what to do; this was her way of providing for the family. It worked well because she did this for some number of years. The setting of the bad town and harsh life all sets up the main story. It gives us readers a hope that things will get better for Katniss. In the story it just gets worse and worse, when she is called upon for her district to fight to the death. In doing this Katniss is challenged and the odds are against her. With her skills and determination she pulls through and is able to make things better in her life. I am enjoying this book a lot more than I thought I would when I first started it. I think this style of book is the one that I like the most and can keep my attention. Since I have seen the movie I think the book is going to end similar to the movie, and the rest of the book. I believe it will end with a huge cliff hanger, leaving readers wanting to know more.
